Riverdale accepts both private referrals from the general public and funded referrals from health professionals.

Our referral process is simple and efficient so that individuals receive appropriate treatment quickly.

Referrals are accepted during office hours 9am - 5pm Monday – Friday and can be by fax, email, telephone or post. See our contact us page for more details.

Private referrals from the general public

You may want help for yourself, a friend or family member. Treatment can be accessed following a referral from a GP or a Consultant Psychiatrist.

Initially you or the person you are concerned about needs to contact the relevant health professional to discuss the referral. When made we also need information on who will be responsible for the funding. This can be an individual or a health insurance provider.

If you need more information or advice on obtaining a referral please contact us for more information.

Health professional referrals

Riverdale accepts referrals from Community Mental Health Teams, GP's, Consultant Psychiatrists and Eating Disorder Services. This can be by a referral letter from a GP, Consultant Psychiatrist or completion of our patient referral form. The additional information detailed below is also required.

  • Recent details of eating disorder behaviour
  • Weight loss history
  • Presenting BMI
  • Previous treatment history
  • Current care plan details
  • Funding Information

Once received, we normally acknowledge receipt of the referral the same working day.

We do not admit out of hours as a situation that urgent suggests a serious crisis requiring immediate medical intervention and general hospital admission.

If you are uncertain about the appropriateness of a referral we are happy to talk in confidence so please contact us for further information.
